About the Author

Rhonda Dennis' first career was in EMS, but later in life, she attended college as a non-traditional student. After graduating, she felt compelled to write a short story. The words flowed, and the manuscript for "Going Home: A Green Bayou Novel Book One" was drafted. Rhonda has since published six novels and three short stories in The Green Bayou series, and has released a romantic comedy called "Magnolia Blossoms" and a contemporary romance called "Yours Always." Rhonda, who resides in South Louisiana, was a nominee in multiple categories for the 2013 Indie Romance Convention Reader’s Choice Awards, and is also a Nook and Amazon Best Selling Author. My Review

I was given an ARC copy of this book for an honest review. I have to say it was a nice, short, and sweet Valentine read. It is perfect if you are looking for a quick read.


Amy L. Gale does a wonderful job. Nicely written flows smoothly and you can definitely feel the connection between these two.

19 year old Brooke went through a rough period in high school. Lots of parties, random sex with guys she didn't know, she became a little out of control. Now off at college she vows to leave those days behind her and start fresh. Focus on school and graduating and that means she has to stay away from the Jocks, booze and frat boys... That was until she met Dean...
Dean is just perfect. He is sweet, charming, respectable, star ball player, and smart, but he is Frat party boy, everything Brooke has sworn to stay away from.

Dean has a goal and that goal is Brooke he is willing to do whatever he can to prove to Brooke he is so much more than what she sees from the outside.


I really enjoyed Brooke and Dean story, but I was anxious to learn more about Dean. Lucky for me I have recently discovered they was introduced in Blissful Tragedy which I have to say I have not read yet, but will be in the near future.

BLISSFUL VALENTINE EXCERPT :

He stops and meets my gaze, then bends down and grabs a mound of snow, packing into a tight ball. He takes a step back and winds his arm, throwing the snowball straight and fast. It smacks against the metal sign on the far end of the small pond near a cluster of benches, breaking off into a multitude of pieces.

He wipes his hands off on his pants. “Give it a try.”

I shake my head. “No way, I throw like a girl.”

His picks up a mound of snow and packs it together, forming a perfect sphere. He hands me the snowball and stands behind me, pressing his body against mine. My heartbeats thump against my chest, causing a surge of adrenaline to rush through my veins. I tremble, holding the snowball in my right hand. At least I can blame the cold for my shaky arm. He runs his hand down to my wrist and pulls it back, up toward my shoulder.

He rests his head on my shoulder and talks softly into my ear. “Pull your arm back to here and step forward at the same time you throw.” He moves to the side.

Goosebumps form on my neck from his warm breath gliding against my cool skin. My stomach flutters. Here goes nothing. I stare at the metal No Parking sign and pull my arm back, throwing the snowball as I step forward. Tiny fragments of snow fly through the air. A direct hit.

I clap my hands and bounce up and down on my toes. “Holy crap, I actually did it. I didn’t think I could hit the broad side of a barn.” Dean comes over and raises his hand to give me a high five. I lunge forward and pull him into a hug, before I realize what I’m doing. My chest tightens and heat creeps across my cheek.

He wraps his arms around my waist and presses his body against mine. I step back and ease away, dropping my arms to my sides. “We better head back, I’ve still got lots of physics studying to do if I plan on passing the semester.”

He rubs the back of his neck and nods.

I slide my frozen hands into my pockets and hold them in tight fists. Note to self: when I think I’m finished embarrassing myself I’m usually wrong.

The perfect untouched blanket of snow moves into an array of chaos as we turn the corner to my apartment. My heart beats faster with each step I take forward. This walk is taking forever. If I don’t get away from Dean soon, I may end up doing something else I shouldn’t. I mean, we’re just friends. I take a deep breath and slowly exhale as we approach my driveway.

I dig in my purse and pull out my keys. “Thanks for my victory celebration.”

He places his hand in the small of my back on our way toward my steps. “First of many.” His hand moves to my waist.

Summersaults take over my stomach. I step onto the first step. My boot slips along the rim of the concrete edge covered in a thin layer of ice and instantly it knocks me off balance. My hands flail through the air, desperately trying to grab onto anything.

Dean jumps into action, catching me before my head smacks against the hard sidewalk. I grab onto his sculpted bicep and pull myself to my feet.

Fire burns through my cheeks, which are no doubt fire-engine red. I drop my chin to my chest and hunch my shoulders. He lifts my chin and gazes into my eyes. My heart pounds against the walls of my chest. Electric shockwaves flows through my veins. He leans in closer. My lips part and lava flows through my body. He tucks a stray strand of hair behind my ear. “I knew you’d fall for me sooner or later.” He places a soft kiss on my cheek and takes a step back, turning and walking away.

1. Can you tell us a bit about the main characters.

Brooke Powers is goal-oriented freshman who wants to focus on her studies and avoid the party scene along with all the trouble that goes along with it.

Dean Parker is an enticingly charismatic fraternity brother and star player on Lakeview U's baseball team.

When Brooke's roommate drags her to a fraternity party, an unexpected mishap causes her wake up in Dean's bed throwing her strategically planned future into complete chaos.

2. How did you think of this story? What inspired you?

Since Dean and Brooke were already a couple in Blissful Tragedy, I wanted to elaborate on their awesome relationship. I decided to go back in time to the girls college years and tell the story. I have to be honest, I was inspired by some of my great college memories.

3. Is there anything special you would like your readers to know about Blissful Valentine?

Valentine's Day isn't always complete bliss.

4. Do you get writers block? How do you cure it?

I think every writer gets writers block at some point or another. I try and look to other sources to cure it, like music or re-watching some of my favorite movies for inspiration.

When I wrote Blissful Valentine, I listened to Thank You by Led Zeppelin, Love Song by Tesla, Lay it on the Line by Triumph, Caught up in you by 38 Special, I Can't Fight this Feeling Anymore by REO Speedwagon, My Kinda Lover by Billy Squire, and Talk Dirty to Me by Poison.

When we walked into the new place, it was exciting and refreshing. I took a second and stood at the door with a smile.

“Admire it after you’re all moved in and get your ass in here. Help me. I’m not doing this by myself, and you’re a damn hoarder.” I heard Rachel’s voice come from somewhere behind the wall of boxes in the living area.

“Whatever, asshole,” I yelled out to her and dropped myself by the door.

“Hello, gorgeous,” I heard Nathan say as he walked down the hallway towards me, wearing my smile.

He wrapped his arms around me and kissed me like he hadn’t seen me in a week.

“Holy hell, you two. Seriously?” Rachel scoffed as she attempted to get the tape off a box marked MISCELLANEOUS. “I’m bound and determined to find my Michael Kors bag, you sticky- fingered bitch,” she mumbled playfully. “And here’s one of them fingers just for you,” I said to Rachel as I walked past her, flipping her off. Nathan showed me around and I started to feel overwhelmed with happiness. I exhaled to try and calm myself. “What’s up?” Nathan asked as we were walking out of our bedroom towards Nate’s room. “Nothing is wrong. Everything is just right.” I wiped my eyes before the tears that had welled up could fall. “I love you. Look where we’re standing. This is a second chance for both of us to be a part of something amazing. Us, our kids, my mom and dad, Tyler, and I guess even Rachel...” He nodded his head back and smiled.

“I heard that, asshole,” Rachel yelled from the living room. “Ah, damn, the baby monitor is on in here, isn’t it?” He chuckled. We both laughed and I stood up on my tippy toes to give him a kiss. “I don’t know what I did to deserve you.” “If I had to guess, I’d probably say you endured life with that criminally insane ex of yours.”

“Ha ha. Very funny.” I smacked his arm lightly as we headed back to the living room.

“What. The. Fuck? Jordan, seriously, bitch. You gone and lost your damn mind. What is all this?” Rachel said very loudly and slowly.

“What are you yelling about?” Frank asked all three of us as he walked over to stand by Rachel. There it was, in all its glory—the box marked PERSONAL, DO NOT

TOUCH—ESPECIALLY YOU, RACHEL!

The box just sat there, wide open, along with Rachel’s mouth. She slowly raised her arms and turned to face us, holding a pair of white boy-short panties with MRS. HARPER slapped across the ass in bright red letters.

Nathan shrugged his shoulders.

“What’s the big deal? She is Mrs. Harper.” He paused. “Okay, yeah, what gives?” He looked confused.

Rachel tried to stifle her laugh because she knew what Nathan didn’t.

“Oh, it’s a big deal all right.” She threw the panties at me and I busted out laughing.

“This. It’s literally a big deal,” Rachel confirmed, waving the packing slip around.

“What? Is it a crime for me to go lingerie-shopping?” I tried to take the packing slip from her and I widened my eyes to hint for her to shut the fuck up.

“Oh, Jesus, I can’t stand when you two talk all cryptic. It’s like a different frequency that only you two can hear.” Nathan snagged the slip from Rachel’s hands and scanned the invoice.

“Wow, I’d say at a dollar each you got the best deal ever, considering these things retail for about fifteen bucks a pop. And this was your lingerie- shopping?” He shook his head and smiled as he wrapped his arms around me and kissed my forehead.

HJ grew up in Bricktown New Jersey, less than an hour away from New York City. As a teenager and early twenties, she loved hanging out in the glamor of NYC. She was a "City Brat" so it was pretty difficult for her to pack her stuff and three cats in 2005, for a life changing road trip, moving to California. She's travelled around the country until she met her better half in 2005.

After serving twelve years in the Air Force, the man of her dreams ended his military career and they moved to Georgia in 2007. Since then, they've settled down in Leesburg GA, and had their first child.

No place has ever come close to replacing the magic of New York City for HJ. So when it was decided to try this romance writing gig out, naturally her first book 'Finding Jordie' would be set there.

HJ enjoys reading, and spending time with her family. Reality TV is a guilty pleasure; she's a sucker for romantic comedies and Robert Pattinson. HJ is a pro at goofing off and she talks with her hands, (She's Italian!) She drinks way too much coffee, and gets too little sleep. Oh, and she has a thing for Jackie-O sized sunglasses. HJ's has five furry kids and most importantly, one beautiful daughter. HJ is always striving to be the best Mom possible.

HJ's very passionate about the things she loves, that's why she was outraged when they cancelled SMASH and Southland! It should be considered a small miracle if you ever get to see a serious or pic of her posing all nice and pretty...She's not that girl. She's a spontaneous goof and believes the best things in life come naturally. Yes, that includes random no make-up selfies during a 2:00a.m. writing marathon.
