WARNING: This book involves CHEATING. The word AFFAIR is in the title. The main character has an AFFAIR. In the synopsis (directly above), she states that she intentionally has an AFFAIR. If you don't like CHEATING, then you have been VERY WELL warned. Also, this book is primarily written in the third-person narrative. 

     

“I can't do this,” she stated bluntly. He smiled. That annoying, smirky, sly smile. “And why not, Mischa?” he asked, his voice low as he folded his arms across his chest. “Because, I'm married. I don't want to hurt him. I like you, I really do, but I just … can't. I don't … I don't want this,” her voice fell into a whisper. “You don't want me?” Tal clarified. Misch looked away. “It's not that,” she sighed. “You do want me.” “That doesn't matter. I'm married.” “That didn't matter, two minutes ago.” “Well, it matters now.” “When was the last time he touched you like that?” She looked back at Tal. “A long time,” she replied. “How long?” “Months. I'm not sure. Maybe six, maybe more.” Tal stared at her for a long moment. His eyes wandered over her face, then down her body. Clear to her feet. Back up again, lingering at her hips and breasts before locking onto her eyes. “I would touch you like that everyday,” he said softly.

Crazy woman living in an undisclosed location in Alaska (where the need for a creative mind is a necessity!), I have been writing since ..., forever? Yeah, that sounds about right. I have been told that I remind people of Lucille Ball - I also see shades of Jennifer Saunders, and Denis Leary. So basically, I laugh a lot, I'm clumsy a lot, and I say the F-word A LOT.

I like dogs more than I like most people, and I don't trust anyone who doesn't drink. No, I do not live in an igloo, and no, the sun does not set for six months out of the year, there's your Alaska lesson for the day. I have mermaid hair - both a curse and a blessing - and most of the time I talk so fast, even I can't understand me.

Yeah. I think that about sums me up.

Synopsis

From the outside looking in Garrison Davis seems like every other senior in high school. On the inside though, he’s an emotional wreck promising to not love anyone. Reese Owens is the exact opposite of Garrison. Inside she’s beaming; growing up in a happy home and on the outside she was a duck out of water. Her parents are the over protective set but are finally loosening the jail bars. Sophomore year in high school, she has never dated a boy and is envious of the social life her best friend Autumn Welch has. She meets Garrison and is instantly attracted to him. He pulls away when she pushes in. A whole new world opens up to Reese and she finds herself falling into situations she can’t get herself out of. Making bad decision after bad decision, she finds out the hard way on how life is full of choices. The one thing she wants more than anything is Garrison’s attention which she doesn’t get in return.

“How is it possible to love someone and keep it quiet? Never to utter those very words knowing he doesn’t feel the same way. I finally fall in love and he only wants to be friends. He is everything I have always wanted and he keeps me at a distance making sure we don’t get too close. How can I ignore my feelings and act like I don’t have them when we are around each other? How do I resist the urge to move my lips towards his when he is talking to me?”

Garrison realizes he has to be honest with Reese and tell her how he really feels before he loses her for good. Just maybe, he will get love in return for the first time in his life. When he finally convinces himself to come forth, a life changing event occurs that could take away the only person in his life that truly loves him.

Is it too late? Does he get the chance to tell her? And when he confesses does it matter?

Carrie

Everything Blake said washes over me, and with it, the realizations surface hard and fast. My best friend’s uncle is a kidnapper. April is a pawn. They will probably kill her. There’s nothing I can do. Thank God I got away, but now I may lose my best friend forever. And lastly, how did I know nothing about this?

It all makes sense, though. This is the reason April’s mom always kept them away from her uncle. This is the reason she’s been acting weird, and this is what made April so reluctant to go the club. I can’t believe she wouldn’t tell me something this big. Maybe she didn’t know? The thoughts are endless, swirling around my head. I don’t know where to begin, but I know one thing: there’s no way I can be alone. No matter how much I want to.

“So, where’s your place then?” I ask him directly, and there’s immediate relief on his face that I’m considering it.

Blake

She’s finally starting to unwind. I tell myself I should be keeping notes on the progress of my witness. But who am I kidding? I’ve been watching her like a hawk from the moment I saw her, and it has nothing to do with keeping witness notes. I’ve done my fair share of tough assignments in this job, but this is hard in a different way. Sticking like glue to the woman who got away.

She was the first one to break me back then, and it sucked. One moment I’m getting up the courage to ask her out, and the next she leaves for the entire summer and comes back acting like I’m the fucking invisible man. Christ, we were good friends. It was a waste. I have no idea what I did or didn’t do. She just never called again. Women. This is why they have a bad reputation. This is why we need a manual. Things break on the inside, and we don’t even know they need repairing before they chew us out or take off.

Not long after it went sour with Carrie, my mom finally snapped. She caught Dad spending money on unsavory pussy and left him. Well, she left us all, really. Brenda and I had to deal with his rages after that. The Wiley old bastard made sure he didn’t take it too far because he needed us. Without Mom in the picture, he had no one to pick on. He didn’t want to be alone with his resentments and pain. I wish we’d had the courage to leave earlier, but we needed to hit rock bottom before we saw there was another way.

Change is like that. Sometimes shit needs to get utterly unbearable.
