EXCERPT
“Shhh,” I tell her. She’s out of it now. Lost in her own world. I hate to take her this way, but I need her in that world. It’s the place that has the answers. And this is the only way I know to get her there. Garrett used her this way. He knew a long time ago how to make her comply with his demands.
I’m just figuring it out now. And she’s damn good at it. Her teeth scrape against my skin and make me wish for more. I want her on her knees. I want her eyes on me, open wide and filled with the desire to please. I’d fist her hair and pull her towards me, making her take me all the way to my balls.
Just imagining that is enough. I throw my head back and she chokes as I come down her throat, but she swallows just as the sobs start. I pull out and get off the table so I can get dressed.
The sobs build to full on crying. Big ugly gasping. Tears streaming down her face. Coughing. Semen she didn’t already swallow spilling out of her lips.
I have a moment of pause and wonder if I should just kill her. This is not what I thought it would be.
But I don’t. Because I need so much more from her than this. I need to get inside her. So I lean into her ear and whisper, “Hush.”

Excerpt
“The magic Titania used to secure her crown in the mountain will not yield to one of half-witch blood. Only a full-blooded faerie can retrieve the crown. It was her insurance that no one other than a full faerie could be her usurper.”
“You mean her successor.” I hated to think of myself as overthrowing the monarchs of Faery.
He rolled his eyes. “If you prefer. All you need to remember is that this dragon will use telemetry to sense your plan of attack. I can block his attempts, but you will be far more enticing to him, once he catches wind of your scent. Do not let the fog enter your mind. Keep it clear and free from thoughts and worries. I will return to the mountainside with the crown. We want to gain access by stealth, for we may not win through strength of arms. Your only task it to stay here, at the mouth of the cave and hold his attention. Can you do that?” He searched my face.
“Do I have a choice?”
“Always.”
“Yes. I can do that.” My heart pounded. I was a bundle of nerves and terror. “Is there anything else I need to know?”
Zanthiel withdrew his canteen of water and handed it to me. “Don't bleed. They are attracted to it.”
“Wonderful. Anything else? Never mind, don't tell me. Don't want to know.” At least I had magic to fall back on. There was some consolation in that. I swallowed several gulps, letting it splash down my neck and chest.
“Darkness will bleed from your soul should you turn to it too often, Lorelei. You need to live a life without reliance on your dark magic. If not, in time it will consume you.”
Frowning, I handed back the canteen. “You used to encourage that.”
“I no longer do,” he said in earnest. “I couldn’t bear to watch you become something you are not. Something you were never meant to be.”
“Picked a great time to grow morals. Right now I don't have any other choice, do I?”
“You use that excuse far too often. You always have choices. It is when you claim not to have any that they are taken from you.”
Of course I had choices, but they were never between good and bad, or right and wrong. They were between horrifying and catastrophic.
His expression shifted from warrior to protector. “You hold too much beauty for this world. Too much goodness resides within your heart. I see it daily, and it pains me to watch it diminish as you fight to save those you love. It’s why I agreed to the madness of this plan. If you are no longer being hunted, then the need for you to use dark magic to protect yourself diminishes too, at least somewhat. Then, you will allow me to protect you. At least, that is my hope.”
I nodded. “I don’t want dark magic to change who I am. Not in that way.” I didn’t know how else to respond. His raw honesty always caught me off guard. “Let’s just get through this, okay?”
He gave a single nod, his inner warrior firmly back in the lead. “First the beast will use the smog to read the mind of its opponent, gaining a sense of their intentions. Should that tactic fail, and it must, it will resort to fire. An even greater threat when the beast becomes airborne.”
This was daunting. I paced a few steps, pressing my fingers to my temples, refusing to picture what was sure to be our end.
“Dragons have one weak spot,” he continued. “The throat, just under its chin. If I can pierce it, it will kill it.”
My pacing stopped. “Okay. This isn't a goblin or even a wyvern we're talking about. It’s a dragon. It’s like a million times bigger than those other two, and they're hard enough to kill. You’ll never succeed.”
“Your lack of faith in me grows tiresome.” He pulled out faerie armor from his pack. The silver leaves embedded on it were impossibly strong and impervious to fire.
“I mean it. How are you going to stroll up to a fire-breathing monster and just stab it in the neck?”
“I won’t. You will be outside of the cave, drawing its attention. I will retrieve the crown. Only if needed will I slay the beast.”
“Distract him?” I nearly laughed out loud. “Distract a dragon? With what exactly, a puppet show?” I shook my head. “And if I can’t hold its attention, and it doesn’t barbecue me on the spot… how will you get close enough to stab it?”
He reached over his shoulder, withdrew an arrow from his quiver and handed it to me. The head of it ignited with a yellow flame.
“A flaming arrow. Much better plan.” I passed the arrow back.
“Remember all I’ve told you. It cannot see you clearly. It can only find you through your fear and its sense of smell. It can detect motion, so move slowly. You will have an opportunity to use all of what I've taught you, combined with all that you already know.” He strapped armored lapels to me, yanking the belt tight to secure them.
I lifted my arms above my head as he wrapped more armor around my midriff. “Okay, see, the thing is I really don't know all that much.” I frowned. This plan grew more terrifying by the moment.
His hands lingered on my waist as his gaze held mine. “You know enough. I'm trusting that you do. You must trust it too. Otherwise we are both dead. From what you've told me, that isn't something you want.”

13 Little Known facts About Me:
By Michele Barrow-Belisle

1.      My debut novel series Fire & Ice was optioned for a movie. We sold the film right, audio right and foreign langue rights all in the same month. Soon, I’ll be reading a copy of Fire & Ice in Turkish. How cool is that!??
2.      I’m a polymer clay sculptor. My favourite things to sculpt are faeries and miniature clay food.
3.      I secretly have a fascination with pirates. And mermaids. And vampires. True story.
4.      I’m a Libra. And as balanced as they come ;)
5.      I really love chocolate. Ok, so that’s not exactly top secret. But it’s a fact none the less.
6.      I live with my amazing husband who rides a motorcycle, my incredible son who’s also an incredible writer and artist,  and a cat with a princess complex… she truly believes our entire reason for being is to see to her every whim.
7.      A few years ago, I got a call from a producer of the Dr. Phil Show who wanted to feature my lifelike babydolls.
8.      When I went to John Taylor from Duran Duran’s book signing event, I signed a copy of my book and gave it to him. Pretty cheeky, I know.
9.      My sister in law Tami was the first person to read FIRE & ICE after I wrote it. She loved it and that gave me the encouragement to move forward.

Not anymore. Screw them. My love has turned to anger…hate. Now, what consumes me is the urge to destroy, to force them to see what they wrecked with their carelessness. My name will never be forgotten. Not after I have my revenge.

“You have three minutes to pull your nasty ass up and get out that door. Three, Janice, or I call the cops. Your call.” Talan laughed and pulled Maya in closer. He didn’t give a shit that I was bleeding on the floor and looking up at their blatant display of affection. Deep down, I knew this was all an act on his behalf. He wanted me, not her. Why continue this lie? When I decided to come over to his house tonight, things played out differently in my head. He was supposed to pull me into his arms and make me feel what I needed to survive. Affection. This wasn’t an empty infatuation on my behalf. I needed him. More than she ever would. I’d followed Maya down to the Seaquarium last night. There was something big going on. The parking lot was full, and it wasn’t with tourists. Everyone wore their uniforms, looking excited as they chatted on their way in. Talan should’ve been alone. This had been my one and only shot to make him hear me out without her interference. Her bullshit lies. If only I’d come right then. Instead, I answered Mother’s phone call. Spent hours listening to her prattle on about how I needed to let the good Lord in, how he would help me release the demons that she and Daddy dearest created. The ones they denied having anything to do with. It was my fault. Every goddamned thing wrong in our family’s life, my repentance would solve. Fuck the fact that my life was crumbling around me. It was too late for her to give a shit. Just another instance where her fucking existence ruined me. Maya turned around in his arms and pulled his face down toward hers. “I want her gone and you naked in our bed upstairs.” My stomach rolled at the sight. He was letting her touch him—enjoyed the jealousy that coursed through my veins. Neither watched as my hands clenched into tight fists and my fingers dug into the skin there. How the blood that ran down my lips boiled with hatred. Still, I loved him. He ground his hip against her, and she moaned. The outline of his hardened cock could not be hidden, nor could the shiver than ran through me be stopped. It should be my body he used—took his pleasure from. I’ve felt that glorious dick inside me. Was made to feel alive by every ridge—its every pulse. “Are you going to punish me?” He smirked down at her, eyes heavy with lust. For the first time, a small ripple of hatred flowed through me at the sound of his voice. Why was he doing this to me? “No.” Maya reached up and nipped his chin. “Just going to teach you a lesson in ownership.” She walked away then. Never looked back toward the woman she assaulted and left on the ground. I was made to feel unworthy. There was no concern in her for me, just a cocky sway to her hips as she marched toward his room. “You heard her.” Talan stood across from me now, door wide open and his arrogant smirk firmly in place. “Get the fuck out, Janice. There’s nothing left for you here. Just go.” When the fuck did he move? “Baby, please. Don't do this,” I begged him one last time as I stood and wiped my lip. Couldn’t he see what his carelessness was doing to me? How he killed me with each word that left his lips? “I don't deserve this. Not again.” His head tilted to the side, an inquisitive expression on his face. “Again? What the fuck do you mean, again?” Ignoring his question, I walked closer. This was not the time to delve into a part of me—a part I couldn’t get a hold on. My hand reached out to grab him, yet he pulled back. Talan’s handsome face was full of the disgust he felt at my mere presence “All I need is for you to love me. See me again.” The room began to feel small, the walls and the truth I’ve ignored closing in on me. My fantasy of happiness began to crumble like a stack of cards blown by the wind. Fuck. My chest hurt. “Please.” It left me as a strangled whisper. My final plea. Talan had to realize that only he held the key to my sanity. He shook his head and sighed. “No. No more. I never gave you hope, nor did I promise you a possibility for more. You did this to yourself.” He made his choice. There was nothing else to say. “Okay.” “Okay? Really? Just like that. After all this…” he waved his hand around the room “…bullshit!” How fucking dare he treat me like this? Like a nuisance. “You know what, Talan? Fuck you and your little whore.” This time, it was he who took a step closer. “Watch your goddamned mouth,” he spat with venom. Fear crept in, building within my gut, but I stood firm. He wasn’t going to intimidate me.
